Core advantages of EC transformer
1. The EC type magnetic core adopts a cylindrical center column design. Compared with the EE/ER magnetic cores with square center columns, the winding operation is more convenient, and the winding cross-sectional area is increased. Under the same volume, a greater output power can be achieved.
2. The EC2834 can be paired with a 7-slot horizontal frame with 6+6 symmetrical distribution. The slots form a natural isolation barrier between each other. The wire slides smoothly along the curvature, with uniform tension, which can reduce the risk of inter-layer short circuits and improve the consistency of the winding.
3. The material of the frame is not prone to deformation after long-term power supply. The edges of the wire slots are smooth without burrs, and the enamel wire can be repeatedly wound without damaging the insulation layer.
4. The working frequency range is from 20kHz to 200kHz, compatible with various switching power supply topologies such as flyback, forward, push-pull, half-bridge, full-bridge, and LLC resonant.
5. The EC type magnetic core has high magnetic permeability characteristics, good leakage inductance control, and low electromagnetic interference level, which helps simplify the design of EMI filtering circuits.

FAQ
Q: What power range is the EC2834 suitable for in terms of power supply design?
The output power range is from 30W to 150W. Compared to EC2828, the winding space of EC2834 is larger and its power carrying capacity is stronger, making it suitable for power supply designs of 30W to 50W and above.

Q: The temperature rise of the EC2834 transformer is high. Is it related to the lack of vacuum impregnation?
For small transformers, the impact of vacuum impregnation on temperature rise can be largely ignored. The main functions of the impregnation are to fix the windings, enhance insulation, and prevent moisture. It does not directly reduce the temperature rise. If the temperature rise is significantly abnormal, it is recommended to first check if the core material is used incorrectly, if the winding is damaged and the insulation layer is compromised causing inter-turn soft breakdown, or if there are any problems with the circuit design itself.
Q: How can one determine if there is an inter-turn short circuit in the EC2834 transformer?
The inter-turn short circuit has a significant impact on the inductance. Taking the 35-turn winding of the EC2834 as an example, the normal inductance is approximately 4.9mH. After shorting any one turn, the inductance will immediately drop to about 0.2mH. If the measured inductance is far below the design value and the air gap and core material issues have been ruled out, one should focus on checking for the existence of an inter-turn short circuit.
Q: Can the EC2834 be used in the LLC resonant topology?
OK. EC2834 is applicable to LLC resonant converters and can adopt either dual-slot or triple-slot frame designs. It does not require an external resonant inductor, thus simplifying the circuit design.
Q: What is the core material of EC2834? What options are available?
The standard configuration is PC40 manganese-zinc ferrite, which belongs to power ferrite material and is suitable for high-frequency switching power supply applications. Some manufacturers also offer options such as SP3, SP4, and SP4A, and the specific choice can be made based on the working frequency and loss requirements.
